Did everybody who uses Windows get the special security patch that Microsoft came out with today?

Microsoft today 4/3/07 issued an "emergency" patch to address vulnerabilities in Windows.

"Microsoft Corp. plans to patch a security hole in Windows on Tuesday related to an animated cursor that hackers have used to launch attacks after users click on links to malicious Web sites."

Microsoft must have felt this update was extremely important as it is issuing the patch, one week ahead of its monthly scheldueled "Patch Tuesday" which is the 2nd Tuesday of every month.

If you don't have your computer set-up for automatic updates, you can get 'em manually by clicking Tools then Windows Updates in Internet Explorer.

Microsoft Office won't accept copy and paste from emails or web?

for a long time I have use Microsoft Office Professional w/o problems. Now if I copy (highlight) anything from my yahoo e mail or the web and then open up Microsoft Word and want to paste..i get an hour glass and eventually with all my clicking to try to get this hour glass to paste what I copied..i get 'program not responding'

Now I can get it pasted by doing this 'new' process (which I don't want to have to do every time) i copy text in my email or from the web. Then I open up microsoft word. Click on edit, then paste special. Paste as text ( i have to click on unformatted text). I have to do this now each time i want to get something into Microsoft word. (I can type in the Microsoft word a new document..) point is..i must have done something to change a setting or whatever??? i dont' want to have to go thru this process..helppppppp get me back to where I simply clicked on copy in my e mail/web page..opened up Microsoft word..and clicked on paste and it appeared.

I've been unable to find the answer so far, but have exactly the same problem. I can copy and paste anything else to Word, but not so much as one letter from my Yahoo email. I can, however, copy and paste it if I open my email in Firefox rather than I.E., which I normally use. So, I think it must be a Yahoo problem, but I don't know.

Microsoft Office 2004 Student and Teacher Edition for Mac wont open?

I have a Mac. Yesterday my Microsoft Word doesn't open anymore. Before I didn't have problems with it at all and when I double click it on my dock, It opens. But just yesterday I double-clicked Microsoft Word so I can type my homework, It doesnt open! The blue W icon which is Microsoft Office just jumps up and down on my dock then stops. Then it told me If I want to send report to Microsoft, so I agreed. But now it's not opening anything. It just jumps then stops. I also checked if I can open PowerPoint and Excel. It worked. Just Microsoft Word doesn't work and I use it more than Powerpoint and Excel! What happened? I even reinstalled only Microsoft Word from the CD and the other one still doesnt open.

Check the three letters behind the dot on each of those files, if they are pdf files, it takes a different set up called Adobe Reader to read these files properly.
My suggestion is to download and install Open Office, which will let you create MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel files, and will open same.

it comes with microsoft office tools, microsoft access 2003, microsoft excel 2003, microsoft infopath 2003, microsoft outlook 2003, microsoft powerpoint 2003, microsoft publisher 2003, %26 microsoft office 2003....AND I DONT EVEN USE THEM!! I am ok with that. its just that i have microsoft office 2003, and i dont even know how to use them, at the least, i know how microsoft word works, but thats not enough..

in order for me to get a job, i need to know the rest, powerpoint, excel, access, etc! i am not fully savvy and

Google documents has a powerpoint presentation tool for free, and it is web based, meaning you can access it from anywhere you have internet access, from any computer. Not exactly powerpoint from Microsoft, but its nice for a freebie.

Most new laptops and desktops come with a trial version of MS office. You will eventually need to by a license.

An alternative way is to delete the version on your laptop and to buy a Student and Teacher version. It is much cheaper.

Caution:

Office 2007 is so different from earlier versions, you will need to retrain on it. But once you get used to it, you will like some of the new features.

I have been using Office 2007 for 5 months and I still need to look up things I did on earlier versions.

My opinion on this matter is NO!, Yahoo has so much to offer to people and is doing fine without help. From my own personal experience Microsoft do nothing but destroy things, their Operating Systems aren't all that good, (people mainly use it because of its vast compatibility options).

I agree. Yahoo! has much more to offer in terms of e-mail, search capabilities, and more. If Yahoo!'s stocks weren't sagging so much, then Microsoft couldn't even make an offer.

The problem is, that investors in Yahoo! see the declining stock as a warning sign, and that a merge with Microsoft might boost it. If Yahoo! does not accept the deal, then they have to somehow boost their profit margin in record time, or risk upsetting it's stocks even more.

Also, with Yahoo! and Microsoft merged together, they would create greater competition with Google, and give us, the consumers, better overall deals.

If there was someway Microsoft could actually buy Yahoo!, and NOT mutate it beyond recognition, everything would be perfect: investors' fears would be alleviated, we would all get better deals, and the economy might even look up because of it.

Microsoft works has programs that do exactly the same as Microsoft office. But they're still different programs.

I have Microsoft office 2003, and when I try to open a file from a works to an office and vice versa with its "twin" program it doesn't work. It asked me if I wanted to download a converter, but I couldn't since I chose not to install the updating stuff to save room. I could do it if I wanted to.

But anyway, what I want to know is: Can newer versions of office show files from their 'twin' programs of works? Or do they already come with the converter installed?

Microsoft works seems more useful for personal use, but the thing is that most businesses, colleges, etc use office.

The reason I wanna keep works is because of the Calendar. I liked it. Do you guys know if I could download it separately? or know of a similar program?

Microsoft is horrible when it comes to supporting file types across multiple programs. Regardless of what they claim, they're horrible with standards.

You might want to look into something like OpenOffice, which is a free open source (like Firefox) office suite that does a lot of what Microsoft Office does.

To answer your question, to the best of my knowledge, if anything Office 2008 has even less backwards and cross compatibility with other Microsoft programs.

Okay I am so sick of mac fans and their constant bashing of Windows Vista. It is NOT a rip off of OSX. I can prove this. People were downloading beta versions of Vista BEFORE OSX, search ALWAYS existed in windows. Microsoft had a calander program before apple's ical and then changed it to windows calander, gadget programs already exsisted with windows before Vista. Windows had a chess game when it made one of it's first os's with IBM.

Now things that apple is playing dirty at. Apples time machine is just a rip of system restore. The new dock in OSX allows windows to disappears behind it which has ALWAYS been a Microsoft feature. Apple's aqua is trying to copy windows aero more and more. Apple always copies the user feature

I have installed Office 2003 Professional addition, which I borrowed from a friend two days ago. When I open Microsoft Word each time now, I receive always a message from Microsoft, which means that I have to register by Microsoft per Internet or telephone. If not, the Office 2003 Professtional will be blocked after I have used it 40 times.

Questions:

1. Does it matter when I register myself as the user or is it not allowed from Microsoft?

2. What are the consequences if I register myself as the user of this software?

3. Shall my friend being disturb from Microsoft with my registration?

Technically what you have done (using a friends copy of Office) is illegal. I suspect that if you try and register yourself as the user 'they' (Microsoft) will have some sort of record that the copy of Office you used has been previously registered somewhere else so I suspect you won't be allowed to register it over the Internet.

This kind of happened to me a couple of years ago. The difference is that I had reinstalled a copy of the software after I had reformated my computer and it wouldn't let me register online. I had to ring Microsoft and tell them that I had reformated my computer and needed to re-register.

I have used "borrowed" software before and I never register, and I have never lost access.
Microsoft doesnt allow people to loan software and when you re-installed it, the software recognized it was re-installed. Your friend would have to un-install it and call microsoft before giving it to you. It also may take a phone call to Microsoft. They are pretty forgiving when you call and are honest as honesty is the best policy.

Software giant Microsoft is trying to shake down Yahoo in a combat like strategy to build up enough power to weaken the next global gian, Google. What are your thoughts?

I love Yahoo, but I use Google, and I use Microsoft products. Much like many other people, I feel as if when Microsoft does take over Yahoo it will depreciate all the good things about it. I think Yahoo has much potential, selling out to anyone would just be going backwards after all the time and technology spent in building it.

I think the net's giants are all trying to battle over who is more popular in terms of ads, searching and providing users with a unique experience, but what if Microsoft does take Yahoo? I think Google would still surpass Microsoft's plan to become "#1" much like they used to back in the Windows 05 days.

Eh, I guess I'm just bored and venting.

Three Apple engineers and three Microsoft engineers are traveling by train to a conference. At the station, the three Microsoft engineers each buy tickets and watch as the three Apple engineers buy only a single ticket. I contacted HP with a small problem with Office 2003. I got their Support Center in India. The Techn. told me to delete it, so I did. He keeped assuring me that this was the way to correct a simple issue I was having. Well 20 minutes later he finally said go download 2007 edition, because he couldn't get 2003 edition back. Microsoft say's they don't support programs that are pre-loaded on Computers. HP won't help either! Well Office 2003 is no longer available from Microsoft Site for downloading. Only 2007 version and they want me to purchase it.

Can anyone help me out with Microsoft Office 2003 download, so I don't have to buy it again?

Contact HP again and insist on speaking with a manager. If it was pre-installed on your computer then ask them to provide you with a copy on disc free of charge as it was their mistake in telling you to remove it. They should never tell you to remove something unless they are 100% certain that you are able to reinstall it, and by doing so makes them responsible.

For those who have a Zune, how do you like it?

I'm thinking about getting one for my birthday.

I received a Zune for Christmas, and have been very happy with it. It's easy to interface with my computer, the battery life has been good (I take it into work, and play it for 6+ hours). I find that the layout is a lot more comfortable to use than an iPod, and am glad that the "wheel" feature wasn't integrated into the Zune. Pushing the toggle is a lot more intuitive and isn't nearly as sensitive on the iPod. Managing music is pretty easy, though it does require the Zune software to use (this would have been much better as an "upgrade" to the existing Microsoft media already on most PCs). I don't use the radio player much, but it does have decent reception. And it's solid enough construction that I don't feel bad when I jostle it or bump it into things. I think 30gbs is a rediculous amount of space for music and videos. I've loaded nearly my entire CD collection (about 120 CDs) and still have more than have the space left on the Zune to fill. I'll never listen to all my music in one sitting, or even in the space of a week!

I think Clarix's review is spot on with the detriments: it's not the most portable device in the world. I ended up buying an extra cord that had an outlet plug/lighter plug for when I travel. It wasn't very expensive, but it would have been nice to at least have the outlet plug for traveling included with the Zune (I suppose this is just a detriment of the 21st century, where it seems everything has accessories and you can't get a complete package). The display is pretty good, but a bit fuzzy at times, which can be detrimental for when using the Zune to play movies. Plus the large glass face tends to attract dirt and streaks easier, so I'd recommend getting something to protect it.

I think McDonald's fries are the best...but....does anyone make better French Fries? I have tasted the fries of Hardee's and Burger King, but they're no match for McDonald's.

in n out is awesome. they're less salty and soggy than mcd's. and you can get them animal style too which, is basically 1000 island ranch mixed with small peices of pickles. they're awesome.

Microsoft .NET Framework?

Okay, so I'm trying to clear out all the unneeded programs that are on my computer at the moment. Microsoft .NET Framework - yes I realise that this software is essential for most Microsoft programs to operate properly. The thing is, my computer says that I have 3 versions of the framework installed.

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB928366)

Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0

So, I thought to myself, I seriously doubt that these are the latest installments of the program. So I get on Wikipedia, and up comes the .NET Framework page. Huzzah. It tells me that the latest version is 3.5.21022.8 and was released on November 19th 2007.

Now this is where you guys come in. I want to know, that if I download this version off the Microsoft website and install it to my computer, if I can uninstall all the previous versions of the framework, and have all my programs work the same.

Churr guys, you rock.

I would leave them on incase anything happens and you have to roll back. They don't take up much hard drive space and they don't eat up resources.
